MITZVAH DAY 2011

Mitzvah Day 2011

Financial Donations

Previous Mitzvah Projects
NEST: With Sharon as chairperson, Ohef Sholom hosted the first ever week of NEST in January on site at the Temple; our neighbor Ghent United Methodist Church shared in the feeding of the 50-plus homeless individuals each day (dinner, breakfast, bag lunch). There were 97 volunteers from Ohef Sholom  in the weeklong project; the cost of $1,300 was largely defrayed by contributions. A small committee has been working to establish guidelines for the program in order to minimize the cost and divide the work among more participants.

JCOC: Led by Dorianne and Anne and fueled by a $1,500 anonymous donation, the committee served 4 dinners at the Virginia Beach shelter to more than 100 homeless at each sitting (including a special Easter dinner). Ohef Sholom also hosted (at short notice) the annual sign-up dinner for JCOC volunteers in October. The committee also filled a table for 10 at the annual JCOC fund-raising dinner in Virginia Beach.
