From the Principal

We are all proud of our children when they want to share what they have with others who are less fortunate. In our Religious School, each year the classes select which organization they would like to assist with their weekly tzedakah donations. We stress the importance of giving, not the amount that is given. If each child would bring something in each week, he or she will develop the admirable habit of giving, a tradition that will last a lifetime.

This year the classes have chosen to support the following organizations:

Nursery: Religious School Relief Fund

Pre-Kindergarten: FIDF (Friends of the Israel Defense Forces)

Kindergarten: Religious School Relief Fund

First Grade: Isle of Wight SPCA

Second Grade: ALEH (Caring for Israel’s Disabled Children)

Third Grade: Jewish Family Services

Fourth Grade: Jewish Braille Institute and ForKids

Fifth Grade: Alyn Hospital (Israel) and Dakota Kids

Sixth Grade: Jewish Family Services and The Jimmy
Fund (Supporting Cancer research)

Seventh Grade: ARMDI (American Red Magen David for
Israel) and JINSA (Jewish Institute for
National Security Affairs)

Eighth Grade: Susan G. Komen Fund and OSTY
Scholarship Funds

Ninth Grade: Jewish Family Services and Norfolk SPCA

As your children head out the door each Sunday morning on the way to Religious School, make sure one of the reminders you ask is - “Do you have your tzedakah?”

About the Religious School

The largest Jewish Religious School in the area, approximately 200 students attend each Sunday during the school year. Starting with Nursery (3 year olds) and continuing through Confirmation (Tenth grade), students are taught, at age appropriate levels, about Judaism through a multi-faceted approach, which includes textbooks, Hebrew, music, art, speakers, field trips, and weekly prayer services with Rabbi Mandelberg and Cantor Wally. The school's goal is to teach children to live Jewish lives and to make friends that will last a lifetime.

Hebrew School is for children in Third through Sixth grades. We have close to 70 students enrolled in our Hebrew School. The goal is to teach children the universal language of Jewish prayer. B'nai mitzvah reflects the competence acquired in our Hebrew School program.
