The Temple has three Torahs that are badly in need of cleaning and restoration of faded or lost letters. (A good example of a faded Torah has been placed on display outside Kaufman Hall) We have acquired the services of Sofer On Site, a group of Orthodox Rabbis who specialize in writing and restoring Torahs.
The Torah is God’s gift to the Jewish people and a skilled “Sofer” can carefully examine our scrolls to determine the extent of repair needed and painstakingly restore them. There is a commandment upon each and every Jew to write this “Song”- the Torah, for themselves. That is why this Temple Restoration Project will include congregants and their families and friends participating in both the fundraising and the actual restoration, letter by letter.
Families will be able to assist in the work while receiving insightful Torah stories and explanations of Torah sections you can “adopt” for repair. Our Sofers will be providing educational classes in both Hebrew School and Adult Education associated with understanding the Torah and its importance to Jews.
